How to Add an Employee, not a Lawsuit & Exit an Employee, not your Confidential Info and Customers
April 9, 2024 | 11:30 am - 1:00 pm | Maggiano's Little Italy

Join BoyarMiller Shareholder Andrew Pearce for a practical discussion including best practices and tips for legal strategies related to employees.

Practical tips and suggested best practices, including the answers to:

  • What is an employee acknowledgment letter and why should you use it?
  • When and why should you send a letter to your new employee’s former employer?
  • What is better – requiring a former employee to return company information or destroy it?
  • Who owns the contacts in your employees’ phone – the company or the employee?
  • Why require a former employee to return or destroy only confidential company information – why not any company information?
  • When you are terminating an employee who does not have a non-compete but you wish she did – is it too late?
  • In an age of non-solicitation agreements, does it matter who is doing the soliciting?

Join ACC St. Louis and Ogletree Deakins for CLE on Tuesday, June 4th!

By this point, in-house lawyers are well-aware that the issue of marijuana in the workplace can be a multistate compliance nightmare.  In addition, Missouri lawyers have been dealing with the November 2022 Passage of the "Missouri Amendment 3", an incredibly difficult change in Missouri law as it relates to marijuana legalization and protections for medical marijuana cardholders in Missouri.

And an increasing number of employers have chosen to simply stop testing for marijuana altogether—but it is important for companies to realize that waving the white flag is not the only option.

In this session, the speakers will explore practical solutions for employers on topics like strategically setting up a drug testing program, preventing and defending legal claims, and creating a playbook for supporting human resources, health and safety professionals, and operational supervisors.

Attendees will leave this session not only with a greater understanding of the legal issues, but also armed with tools to provide strategic support for their business vision and needs.

Attendance Drawing:
Ogletree will conduct an attendance drawing for a fabulous gift basket!  Must be present to win.

Schedule:
4:30 - 5:00 CLE Check-In and refreshments
5:00 - 6:00 CLE Program

Location:
Ogletree Deakins St. Louis Office

This Ethics CLE program on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, in downtown Minneapolis offers a comprehensive primer on risks and benefits associated with the integration of AI tools in legal practice, highlighting both the opportunities and the ethical challenges inherent.

As AI becomes increasingly prevalent in the legal sector, it's imperative for in-house counsel to stay abreast of these technological advances. This course will provide an overview of the current AI tools, delve into the legal implications of using such technologies, and explore the ethical boundaries within which the in-house counsel must operate.

CLE participants will gain insights into how AI is transforming the legal landscape, including case studies on AI's application in various legal scenarios. The course will address key ethical issues, such as discoverability of AI data, maintaining client confidentiality, ensuring unbiased legal advice, and the implications of AI on professional responsibility and decision-making. Additional Information

  • Please note that this year we have implemented a $50 charge for spa attendees.  For many years, we have been able to host this event at no cost to our members, thanks to generous sponsorships and careful budgeting.  However, due to rising costs across the board and to ensure the continued quality and standard of excellence that you have come to expect at our signature spa event, we will be instituting this minimal charge. We appreciate your understanding and continued support.  Our goal is to provide an enjoyable and memorable experience for all participants, and we believe that this small fee will enable us to do just that.  For those who are familiar with Trellis Spa, you know that this opportunity still represents a tremendous value.
  • All tickets come with admission to the Ethics Seminar.  The only exception to this is the Reception ONLY ticket.
  • This event is for ACC Houston Members and current 2024 ACC Houston Sponsors only.
  • If, as a member, you have any issues registering for a member ticket, please email Elena Baer at Houston@accglobal.com for assistance.  Please DO NOT register for a non-member ticket.  This will result in your ticket being invalid.
  • Spa appointment times will be emailed to you by September 3 (or earlier).  Please DO NOT contact the Trellis Spa directly unless otherwise instructed by ACC Houston.
  • Each spa attendee will be given one Trellis spa treatment and their choice of supplemental activity (tennis, yoga or floral design) along with the full day's access to all of the spa facilities, as part of the ACC Houston spa buyout.
  • If you have any special needs, please make your notes in your registration form. (Ex: Prenatal Massage needed, appointment timing preferences or therapist preferences for male/female etc.)  Every effort will be made to make accommodations to preferences noted; however, we may not be able to make ALL preferences available.
