The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) is the world's largest organization serving the professional and business interests of attorneys who practice in the legal departments of corporations, associations, nonprofits and other private-sector organizations around the globe.
The in-house counsel fulfills a unique role in the business and legal function of an organization. While the attorney-client privilege might attach when counsel is wearing their “lawyer” hat, it might not easily apply when non-legal and business tasks are being pursued. Then, while the copy button on an email might seem convenient and helpful to keep a broader team in the loop, it could also create detrimental impacts on the privilege. This session will focus on every day and practical applications of privilege in the corporate environment, including a refresher on the privilege, how to maintain confidentiality, its waiver, and other important related topics paired with plenty of real life examples.
