Understanding Modern Libraries and the Role Lawyers Can Play in Supporting Their Underserved Patrons

Saul Ewing looks forward to hosting an event for members of the Association of Corporate Counsel Minnesota. Join us to learn about the evolving nature of libraries for underserved communities, including the utilization of pro bono legal organizations as a resource for patrons.

We will begin the event by accepting donations for programs such as the Minneapolis homeless-to-housing program embedded in the Minneapolis Central Library, as highlighted in recent media articles including Not Your Childhood Library in The New Yorker. Afterward, we will hear presentations by library staff about the way they serve the community and when they refer patrons to lawyers. We will conclude our program with a discussion of opportunities for ACC MN members to serve as pro bono counsel for community service legal organizations, including Volunteer Lawyers Network.

ACC NCR and Hogan Lovells invite you to a celebration of all things Northern Virginia in Hogan's stunning offices in The Boro in Tysons. Enjoy local wine, beer, and food, while networking with your peers and ACC NCR board members! In addition, we will spotlight the great work of Legal Services of Northern Virginia - an organization near and dear to both ACC NCR and Hogan Lovells.

Experienced Boards of Directors and management teams have been hearing about a range of corporate governance issues for many years, sometimes decades.  With active administrations taking aggressive positions, and the U.S. Supreme Court and other courts issuing rulings that are changing long-standing practices, what are the corporate governance issues that Boards and management should be paying attention to?  Whether the corporate governance issues relate to the environment, social causes, new technology, constituency representation, or the latest controversy in the news, in-house lawyers are called upon to provide advice on the issues and support the Board and management as they work through the legal, financial, and reputational risks.

The panel will talk through the latest corporate governance hot topics (and those that have faded away), discuss the various views, and provide practical advice on working with your Board and management team on issues such as Board composition, headquarters jurisdictions, AI uses, environmental impact initiatives, social positions, executive compensation, risk management, and other current topics of interest.

Presented by Steve Patterson, Partner at Hunton Andrews Kurth, Kathleen Stevens, General Counsel at J. Jill, and Todd Aman, Senior Vice President, General Counsel & Secretary at FiscalNote.

1.5 Hours of VA MCLE pending.
