On May 19, 2022, the US Department of Justice (“DOJ”) announced significant clarifications to its policy on charging Computer Fraud and Abuse Act (“CFAA”) violations that give some comfort to cyber security consultants who engage in network testing and related operations. Such activity has long been a gray area for “white hat” hackers.

Topic: "The Tech Never Stops" 2.0 hours CLE (Includes 2.0 hours Ethics Credits)

Our devices are dangerous…there are issues with “working from anywhere”…and artificial intelligence is causing all sorts of nightmares.  In this program the CLE Performer, Stuart Teicher talks about all of the latest dangers, including stolen devices and Rule 1.6(c), the dangers of autocorrect and Rule 4.4(b), and more.

The Agenda for the 23rd Annual Event will vary slightly from years past. With many upgrades for this 23rd Annual in-person event, we are thrilled to announce that our golfers will be able to enjoy Houston's premier PGA golf course, Memorial Golf Course.  Reopened and totally upgraded after a year-long closure, this popular in-town muni sports fascinating green contours, modest but strategic bunkering, and acres of short-grass runoff around putting surfaces. The Original John Bredemus routing from 1936 has been tweaked some to make betters of the basically flat site, with lots of understory and trees removed to expose the ravines and make it spectator friendly for the PGA Tour's annual Houston Open. The work by architect Tom Doak was enhanced by consulting of 4-time major winner Brooks Koepka. Together, they have produced a golf course that tests everyday players and elite golfers.

Not to be outdone by golf, our spa attendees will see increased amenities and time at Trellis Spa at The Houstonian Hotel.  Trellis spa boasts as a Mediterranean style spa surrounding a courtyard that offers a beautiful, natural garden environment seen through large windows located throughout the spa.  In the newly renovated spa, our attendees will choose from massage, facial, manicure and pedicure treatments. ACC Houston members and sponsors will also have their choice of attending a floral design class sponsored by Kean Miller.  Yoga and tennis lessons by the pros at The Houstonian will also be options for our spa attendees.

This is our annual "Can't Miss Event"!  Plan to carve out time for the whole day for this event; you'll be glad you did!

The decision is an example of the English Courts’ willingness to develop and apply existing case law to contemporaneous disputes, in this case in relation to crypto assets and persons unknown who might be out of the jurisdiction (a common feature of such cases) to ensure victims have a timely means of tracing and recovering stolen assets.

In recent years, the collection of biometric data has become increasingly prevalent. While the goal is to safeguard companies and individuals from fraud and identity theft, there are rising concerns about the risks to data privacy, cybersecurity, and compliance. When the technology is compromised and a cyber incident occurs, businesses are not only vulnerable to biometric lawsuits, but possible enforcement actions as well. As litigation risk rise, many companies are grappling with the challenge about whether, and how, to roll out biometric technology.

Join us for a 90-minute presentation where speakers from Crowell & Moring will cover:

• Overview of existing biometric privacy law and prospect of future legislation in other U.S. jurisdictions—particularly Illinois’ Biometric Information Privacy Act
• Trends in recent biometric lawsuits and common issues for organizations considering or currently implementing biometric technologies
• Enforcement efforts and what to do when regulators get involved
• Practical guidance for corporate counsel

Attendees will come away with a better understanding of the key issues that they should keep top of mind to ensure biometric regulatory compliance, issues likely raised during biometric litigation, and what to consider at the business operations level when implementing biometric systems.
