Mentoring

"Mentoring reminds me that we all have different strengths and to always look at the world through different lenses.” This is one of the benefits Helen Fraser, General Counsel for MNF Group and a 2020 Mentor of the Year finalist, shared about her participation in the incredibly successful Future Leaders Mentoring Program. “Mentoring helps make the world a better place”, shares Helen. “You don’t need to have all the answers to be a mentor, and it’s hugely satisfying to see people shoot for their dreams and encourage them towards achieving them.”

ACC Australia is thrilled to announce that applications for the 2022 program, commencing in February, are now open. We already have mentees on a waitlist anticipating being paired with a mentor. We often hear from mentors that participating in a program such as this can be one of the most effective ways to advance your career.

Courtenay Zajicek, Senior Legal Counsel, Nando’s Australia, and the 2021 Mentor of the Year, says she saw three main benefits in joining the program as a mentor. “I work for a purpose - led business that drives me personally, but giving my time to mentoring others helps me continue to align with my own personal values of leading with purpose. I have personally grown from my involvement in the program as a mentor and I’ve learned so much from my mentees. They are all incredible people, dedicated to their own personal and professional growth and satisfaction, making it rewarding on so many levels.”

It is often said that mentoring is a mutually beneficial relationship, and our mentors know this is absolutely true. “As a mentor, I get so much out of the program both personally and professionally, I get an opportunity to really coach and support rather than direct which is often my default style – it’s been an incredible journey!” shares Courtney Zajicek.

Tri Duc Nguyen, General Counsel and Company Secretary for The Redundancy Payment Central Fund Limited, recognises that he has gained a greater level of self - awareness, patience, and empathy, something he has been able to apply when managing his own staff. He importantly adds that “the program is well run, and very well supported. The team is very approachable and encouraging, and there are plenty of resources and guidance material when required. It is a great program, one that has quantifiable benefits for both mentor and mentee.”
