Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC ConnecticutSince the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, generative AI has moved from novelty to everyday tool in
legal departments, bringing new efficiencies—and new ethical risks. This program will examine how existing
rules of professional conduct apply when in-house lawyers use generative AI, whether for research,
drafting, or internal advice. We’ll demystify the technology and key terminology, then tackle core ethical
issues including confidentiality and privilege, data privacy and vendor risk, bias and reliability of outputs,
accountability for AI-assisted work, and the evolving duty of technological competence. Attendees will
leave with a practical framework and concrete safeguards to help them harness generative AI’s benefits
while meeting their ethical obligations and protecting their clients.
