JOINTLY PRESENT

Raising Wise Teens in an Artificially Intelligent World

Presented by: Laura Clark Fey, Principal | Bio

Wednesday, October 15, 2025

12:00 - 1:00 p.m. via Zoom

Program Summary:
AI is rapidly transforming daily life for teens (and younger children). The Pew Research Center reported that the percentage of teens using AI for homework doubled between 2023 and 2024. And Common Sense Media reported earlier this year that 72% of U.S. teens turn to AI companions for advice, entertainment, or even emotional support. These shifts bring real risks— from academic dependence and diminished critical thinking to increased loneliness, emotional attachment to chatbots, eroding social skills, and increased anxiety and emotional distress. These are risks that parents, students, and educators cannot afford to ignore.

Join us on October 15, when Privacy and AI lawyer and law professor, Laura Clark Fey will demystify how teens are using AI; explore its real-world benefits and pitfalls, including legal risks; discuss real-life cautionary tales; and offer practical tips designed to help teens (and younger children) responsibly and safely navigate an increasingly AI-powered world.

Program Outline:

  • How AI is being used by teenagers and younger children (10 minutes)
  • Addressing the benefits and pitfalls of using AI, including legal risks (25 minutes)
  • Case studies and practical tips for safe AI navigation (20 minutes)
  • Final recommendations and wrap-up (5 minutes)
