Members of McGuireWoods’ national and North Carolina appellate practices will provide an update on recent cases and broader jurisprudential trends in the North Carolina appellate courts that affect the state’s business and regulatory environment.

Featured Speakers:
Jonathan Ellis – Jonathan is a Chambers USA-ranked national appellate lawyer and co-leader of the McGuireWoods' Appeals and Issues Practice Group. He helps clients design winning legal strategies in appeals and high-stakes litigation. Jonathan has argued nine cases before the U.S. Supreme Court and filed hundreds of briefs at the merits and certiorari stages before the Court. He has handled appeals and dispositive motions in other federal courts and state courts across the country. He has significant experience nationally in assisting clients in formulating appellate strategy, both in pending appeals and at the trial court level before judgment. And he has challenged and defended federal agency actions at every level of the federal judiciary.
Ryan Park - Ryan is a member of McGuireWoods’ Appeals and Issues Practice Group with extensive experience in appellate strategy, constitutional law and complex litigation. He has argued more than 30 appeals in state and federal appellate courts, including multiple times before the U.S. Supreme Court and nine times before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Ryan focuses his practice on assisting clients navigate high stakes appeals and other complex legal disputes.
Hannah Caison – Hannah is a member of McGuireWoods’ financial services litigation team. Before joining McGuireWoods, Hannah served as a law clerk for Judge James A. Wynn of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and Chief Judge Martin Reidinger of the United States District Court for the Western District of North Carolina.
Brent McKnight - Brent focuses his practice on trial and appellate litigation, including commercial and product liability litigation. Brent draws on his experience as a law clerk for federal judges in both trial and appellate courts to represent clients in high-stakes matters. Before joining McGuireWoods, Brent served as a law clerk to the Honorable Allison J. Rushing of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit and the Honorable James C. Dever III of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina. While a student at Duke University School of Law, Brent interned with the Honorable Paul M. Newby of the North Carolina Supreme Court.
