Agenda:

8:30 am – 9:00 am: Check-in, Networking & Continental Breakfast

9:00 am - 10:00 am: EEO/Employment Law Update - This fast-paced, special session provides a great opportunity to keep up with important EEO and employment law developments, including recent court cases, legislative and regulatory activity, and crucial employment law developments that will affect your workplace and responsibilities. We will guide you through the maze of new developments and prepare you for the challenges ahead.

10:05 am - 11:05 am: Labor Law Update - When POTUS Walks the Picket Line; lessons learned from one of the most active and pro-labor version of the National Labor Relations Board. This session will discuss what policies you may want to change within your organization, what pressure points the NLRB and Big Labor are using against companies, and what strategic changes you should consider implementing.

11:10 am - 12:10 pm: - Best practices for Leaves and Accommodations - The Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) can be a huge trap for unwary employers. Thorny issues include: recognizing an employee’s notice of the need for FMLA leave, tricky medical certification issues, unplanned intermittent leave taken on a moment’s notice, suspicions of FMLA misuse, and more. This presentation will address the most difficult FMLA compliance issues while offering practical solutions so employers can minimize risk and maximize compliance with the law. Additionally, The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA) took effect in June 2023. It requires employers to provide reasonable accommodations to employees for conditions related to, affected by, or arising out of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. We will summarize what the law requires and address the interplay of this new law with the ADA, the FMLA, the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, and the PUMP Act.

12:15 pm - 1:15 pm: A Potpourri of Ethics Issues for In-House Counsel - In-house counsel face diverse and complex issues daily. This session will focus on cutting-edge ethics-related topics, including:

  • May I Bypass Plaintiff's Counsel?: Communicating with represented employees under Rule 4.2
  • "Danger Will Robinson": Key AI considerations for in-house counsel
  • Taking License: Satisfying in-house counsel licensing requirements in a remote-work world.”
