ACC AustraliaThe Hon Christine Wheeler AO, KC joins Pragma Lawyers and ACC Australia to celebrate and reflect on the achievements of women in the legal profession in a special event for this year’s International Women’s Day on 8 March.

Speakers
Christine Wheeler began her career in the legal profession in 1976 as Professional Assistant to the W.A Solicitor-General, who at the time was Sir Ronald Wilson. She was later admitted in December 1980 where she focused primarily in constitutional and administrate law, criminal law and general civil litigation.
In 1984 she became assistant Crown Solicitor, head of the Policy and Law Reform Unit. In 1988 Christine moved up to Senior Assistant Crown Solicitor, appearing in constitutional and administrative law in the High Court, Federal and Supreme Courts.
In 1994 Christine went to the Independent Bar; was also appointed a part time Judicial Registrar Industrial Relations Court of Australia; and in 1996 was appointed a Commissioner at the District Court of WA. She took silk in 1996.
Christine went on to become the first female judge to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court of Western Australia where she remained until 2005. From 2005 to 2010, she was an inaugural judge of the Court of Appeal. Christine retired from the Supreme Court in 2010.
Outside of the legal community, Christine has had a number of roles in her time, such as President of the Fremantle Society, Senate Member of the University of WA, Board member at the Perth International Arts Festival and Board member of the School Volunteer Program to name a few.
Christine’s service to the law and the wider community has been recognised by these awards; Honorary Degree; Dr of Laws, University of WA 2007, International Distinguished Service Award, Federal Judicial Centre (USA) 2010 and Officer of the Order of Australia 2013.
