Despite its flaws and lack of representation of colonized countries during the drafting process, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of 1948 can rightly be seen as an historic achievement of humankind. The recognition of the inherent dignity and the equal and unalienable rights of all members of the human family has been the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world. The declaration has not ended all the wars and barbarisms (as recent terrible events are showing) but at least it has been a clear path to follow. Even if legally non-binding it has imposed itself as the standard and a moral compass to address violations, denounce abuses and report failing states.
In the exhibition ‘Universal Human Rights’, Kazerne Dossin explores all dimensions of human rights:
What are the types of rights?
What is their origin?
Who are they important for?
Visitors can learn about their rights in a threefold exhibition brimming with interesting facts and inspiring pioneers, but also complex dilemmas and pressing current affairs.
Please join Yves Heijmans, ACC Europe Country Representative, Belgium on a guided tour of this important exhibition on Tuesday 19 April at 12:00 CET (try to arrive 10 minutes early as we will start on time). Please click on the link below to register.
