Live Webinar via Zoom
Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC OntarioIn the last year, the privacy litigation landscape has altered substantially, leading to an increase in data breach class actions across a broad spectrum of industries. This trend is now influencing the outcomes of judicial cases. For instance, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice recently confirmed that a hacked company is not an "intruder" within the meaning of the tort of intrusion upon seclusion. In light of this shifting litigation landscape, join us to find out how businesses protect their interests and continue to grow their digital footprint, and, what a company's response should be if the unthinkable happens.
Our panel will provide an overview of different perspectives, each aimed at risk mitigation and/or understanding the litigation framework:
- Tips for preventative maintenance - steps you can take to limit litigation risk and damages before a breach occurs
- Best practices to respond if a breach does occur (keeping in mind the inevitable litigation)
- Test for class action certification
- New privacy torts gaining ground across Canada
This program contains 1 hour of Professionalism content.
