Why we can no longer retain personal data forever in the MENA region & the impact of new laws on the retention & deletion of personal data
We are constantly being told that data is an asset. Every organisation is becoming a data company and the value of that data is increasing as ever more complex and sophisticated technologies are applied to derive insight and drive innovation. At the same time, we humans just love to retain and hoard data. Digitisation, cloud computing, evolving AI technologies and transformational ambitions are also contributing to an explosion in the quantities of data we gather, analyse and share.
As new compliance requirements like data minimisation, storage limitation, data subject rights and processor obligations begin to impact the lawful retention and deletion of personal data, the risk equation for data can quickly turn negative.
It's time to burn the undergrowth and plan for the future.
How do you apply a risk-based approach to data retention and deletion?
What will you learn:
• What are the legal obligations?
• What best practices or lessons learnt can we apply from beyond the MENA region?
• How do you operationalise efficient data retention and deletion?
Speakers are:
Dale Waterman, Managing Director, Breakwater Solutions (Moderator)
Ben Crew, Senior Director, FTI Consulting
Paul McCormack, Global Lead Counsel for Privacy and Cybersecurity, Saudi Aramco
This event is a collaboration between IAPP (Dubai chapter) and ACC Middle East and North Africa.
