ACC AustraliaDuring this session delivered by LK (Lipman Karas), you will hear from three experienced general counsel who will share some anecdotes, insights and lessons learned in “remote risk management” and how they stay sufficiently connected and abreast of developments within their organisations to ensure they are well placed to identify and address legal issues as they arise.
Speakers
Lisa Loechel, Principal, Lipman Karas (Chair)
Lisa has experience across a broad range of commercial disputes, for domestic and international clients, involving a variety of commercial and regulatory issues and industries, from agriculture to financial services.
Lisa has significant experience with large-scale, complex litigation, involving complicated forensic investigations and documents and data management.
Lisa has worked with and advised in-house counsel on internal investigations and associated internal reporting, including the identification and minimisation of related risk.
Michelle Pole, Manager of Governance and Business Services, OZ Minerals (panellist)
Michelle has recently transitioned from Senior Legal Counsel & Company Secretary at OZ Minerals Limited to Manager of Governance and Business Services at Oz Minerals’ Carrapateena copper gold mine. In her new role, Michelle has oversight of:
• Commercial & ICT including risk, supply chain, finance, procurement, contracts and legal
• Human Resources & Social Performance including environment, community, heritage and communications; and
• Health, Safety & Training including emergency services, site services and aerodrome.
Céline McInerney, General Counsel, University of Adelaide (panellist)
Céline is General Counsel and Executive Director of Legal and Risk for the University of Adelaide. Her portfolio includes legal and regulatory compliance, contract and risk management, business continuity, and integrity reporting. She is also a Director of several commercial and not-for-profit organisations in business, industry and the performing arts.
Céline has expertise in enterprise and operational risk management, corporate governance and integrity reporting, administrative and public law, strategic business planning, fraud control, internal audit, contract management, and compliance reporting. In addition, Céline provides both transactional and strategic assistance in built and natural asset management, procurement, technology and intellectual property law.
Damian Fitzgerald, General Counsel, Viterra Australia and Viterra New Zealand (panellist)
Damian has been General Counsel of Viterra Australia and New Zealand since 2010 and Company Secretary of the Australian business since 2004.
With its Australian head office based in Adelaide, Viterra operates a significant grain supply chain network across South Australia with 55 operating sites and six port terminals. As one of the largest buyers and exporters of grain in Australia, Viterra contributes significantly to the state and national economy.
Damian has extensive experience in the rural and agricultural sectors. He is a Director of Viterra New Zealand and was a Non-executive Director of not for profit organisation Rural Business Support Service for nine years.
He is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Governance Institute of Australia.
