Today’s Data Governance: Lost in Translation Schrems II, CPRA, and Maintaining a Current Data Inventory – CLE presented by Exterro
Last year, the Schrems II decision challenged many companies to revisit and improve their current data governance programs. Then, the California Privacy Rights Act amended the California Consumer Privacy Act, demanding even more of those same programs. Recent European Data Protection Board guidance for handling personal data requires detailed knowledge of that data, the means by which it is transferred and the processes that use it. Organizations without a comprehensive and up to date data inventory may be unable to comply with these recommendations. In addition, data management requirements from the CCPA and CPRA, including the need to be capable of limiting the use of sensitive information and of restricting the sale of information, present more challenges.
Please join Rebecca Perry from Exterro and Devika Kornbacher from Vinson & Elkins LLP in a detailed discussion of Schrems II, CPRA, and how detailed data knowledge enables compliance with EDPB recommendations and good data governance.
● Schrems II and data transfer risk management
● Practical implementation of EDPB Guidance
● Data governance that enables compliance with CCPA and CPRA
● Building a robust data inventory and third party risk process
Speakers:
Rebecca Perry, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Exterro
Devika Kornbacher, Partner - Technology Transactions & Intellectual Property, Vinson & Elkins LLP
Fotis Konstantinidis, Managing Director – Management Consulting, AI & Digital Transformation, Stout

Canadian Regulation of Big Tech: The Short and the Long Arm of the Law – CLE presented by Borden Ladner Gervais
US federal agencies and state attorneys-general are increasingly scrutinizing technology companies, how they conduct their businesses and their M&A activity. In Canada, comparable agencies have been much less aggressive in their oversight. Why? Conversely, Canadian regulators have formally heightened their level of scrutiny of national security concerns in M&A across virtually all sectors. In this session, we will explore the reasons behind this regulatory landscape and in Canada, pitfalls to watch out for, and what the future may hold.
Speakers:
Andrew Hennigar, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais
Denes Rothschild, Partner, Borden Ladner Gervais
