Overview (Program Summary)

A program hosted by:

ACC Alabama

The Bradley Governmental Affairs team will discuss best practices for businesses to consider when attempting to influence government policies and in establishing an effective compliance regime for interactions with governments.  The panel will consist of Former Congresswoman Martha Roby, Ryan Robichaux and David Stewart.

Speakers

Ryan Robichaux specializes in political advocacy and compliance, where he represents clients before the executive and legislative branches of government in Washington, D.C., Montgomery, Alabama, and other states. His work in these areas includes representation of businesses, trade associations, political action committees, nonprofits, government contractors, and other individuals and entities that are involved in the political process. Ryan also has significant experience representing candidates for public office.

Martha Roby is a senior advisor in Bradley’s Governmental Affairs and Economic Development practice groups. Prior to joining Bradley, Martha served as the U.S. Representative for Alabama's second congressional district from 2011 to 2021. Early in her tenure, she served on the Agriculture, Armed Services, and Education and Workforce committees. She also served as the chairman of the Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigations of the House Armed Services Committee during the 113th Congress and was the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet for the House Judiciary Committee in the 116th Congress. Martha was the first representative from Alabama’s Second Congressional District to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, where at some point she served on six of the 12 subcommittees and had direct oversight of over 90 departments and related agencies. In her tenure in Congress, she sponsored and cosponsored more than 500 bills. She distinguished herself as an effective legislator focusing on issues directly impacting her constituents, including veterans’ health and military mobility. Martha exposed abuses in the Veterans Affairs health system and worked tirelessly to improve care for veterans, both locally and nationally. Before being elected to Congress, she was in private practice in Montgomery, Alabama, and then served on the Montgomery City Council from 2003 to 2010.

David Stewart regularly represents clients before the executive and legislative branches in Washington, D.C., and Montgomery, Alabama, and also advises clients on federal and state campaign finance, lobbying and ethics laws. He got his start in politics working in the United States Senate in Washington, D.C. before attending the University of Virginia Law School. After graduating from law school in 2000, David returned home to Birmingham to join Bradley’s Governmental Affairs Practice Group.
