Join André Frieden of Capgemini along with Brinks Gilson & Lione’s Virginia Marino, William Frankel, and Andrew Avsec for a webinar discussing the basics of information technology and intellectual property licensing, including software, trademark and copyright licenses.


Speakers

André Frieden, Deputy General Counsel, Capgemini, Chicago, IL – André Frieden has extensive in-house and law firm experience negotiating regional and global technology transactions, guiding innovation growth strategies, managing compliance, securing commercial alliances and supporting M&A for Fortune 100 companies, governmental organizations and U.S., European, LATAM and APAC technology companies. He has negotiated and drafted a wide range of complex technology transactions ranging from software licenses and IT infrastructure contracts to product development agreements and intellectual property licenses.
André also has managed global patent and trademark portfolios related to software and SaaS offerings, performed due diligence, filings, and advised on a broad range of IP disputes, such as patent, copyright and trademark infringement claims and has counseled on data privacy/security, export controls and other compliance matters. He has written on legal, business and technology topics published by the National Law Journal, BNA International journals and various CLE books. André speaks English, French, Portuguese and Spanish.

Virginia Marino, Shareholder, Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago, IL - Virginia Marino focuses her practice on all aspects of domestic and global brand protection, copyright and unfair competition law. Her prosecution and counseling practice includes the acquisition, maintenance, licensing, enforcement and transfer of intellectual property with an emphasis on the selection and clearance of trademarks. As a litigator, Virginia represents clients in civil litigation in federal district court and TTAB oppositions and cancellation actions. She regularly assists clients with online IP protection, including domain name disputes and web-based trademark protection and vigilance. Virginia also has extensive in-house experience, as she was seconded to Accenture as in-house trademark counsel for over a year.

William H. Frankel, Shareholder, Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago, IL -  Bill’s practice includes over three decades of patent, trademark, copyright, trade secrets and unfair competition litigation in jury and non-jury cases; intellectual property asset management and counseling; and intellectual property transactional work.  He has represented clients in federal courts, before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, before the International Trade Commission and in alternative dispute resolution fora in connection with injunction, trial, contempt and appellate proceedings.  He also has acted as a mediator of intellectual property disputes.  Bill is a co-author of Designing an Effective Intellectual Property Compliance Program, has been recognized by Chambers, U.S.A., and currently serves as a Trustee of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A.

Andrew J. Avsec, Shareholder, Brinks Gilson & Lione, Chicago, IL – Andrew Avsec is co-chair of the firm’s Trademark Practice Group. Andrew partners with clients to provide practical legal advice tailored to achieving business goals. Andrew advises clients on complex brand protection, copyright, advertising, trade secret, and social media issues. As a litigator, Andrew represents clients in district court litigation, arbitration proceedings, Trademark Trial and Appeal Board oppositions and cancellation actions, and domain name disputes under the Uniform Dispute Resolution Policy.
