Program Description:

With the number of states and municipalities legalizing medical, and in some cases recreational, marijuana use is growing. CBD dispensaries are popping up on every corner.  This presentation will discuss the issues this presents for employers in areas of substance abuse policies, worker’s compensation management, and reasonable accommodation obligations, and other liability issues and present strategies for addressing the same.  We also will discuss recent developments in ADR and strategies for employing the same to minimize the risk of legal claims.

Topics Include:

  • Overview of Current Employment Law Issues (10 minutes)
  • Substance Abuse Policies (15 minutes)
  • Worker’s Compensation Management (15 minutes)
  • Employer Obligations for Accommodation and Other Liability Issues (10 minutes)
  • Minimizing Risk of Legal Claims (10 minutes)

We encourage members to bring an associate or colleague that may be interested in joining the ACC Mid-America Chapter. The Association of Corporate Counsel offers numerous benefits and resources to in-house counsel including CLE offerings and networking opportunities and we look forward to sharing that information with others in the field.
