WASHINGTON (September 6, 2016) — The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing more than 40,000 in-house counsel in 85 countries, will host over 3,500 in-house counsel at the 2016 ACC Annual Meeting, to be held October 16–19 in San Francisco. The conference features more than 100 sessions on new legal developments, as well as a keynote address by Google's Laszlo Bock on why the company is consistently rated one of the best places to work – and how to replicate this success by building a better organization from within.

At the conference, leaders from Boeing, BT Group, Capital One, GE, Oracle America, ConAgra Foods, Deutsche Bank, the Dallas Cowboys, NBCUniversal, Luxottica Group S.p.A., Hilton Worldwide, Staples Australia and New Zealand, Twitter, and other companies will serve as faculty for programming across 14 tracks, including litigation and dispute resolution, driving change, law department management, and compliance and ethics. This year's technology track will feature two spotlights: privacy and information governance, offering additional focus on third-party risk, EU data protection rules, communicating with the board of directors on information security, and the emerging area of data ethics.

Programming highlights include:

  • From Body Art to Unisex Bathrooms: Changing Workplaces, Changing Employment Laws
  • Dealing with Cross-border Issues in the Borderless Internet World: Preventing and Mitigating the Consequences of Cyber-attacks
  • Supreme Court Issues and Cases Update
  • If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them! How to Make Disruptive Technology Work For You
  • Investing in Cuba: A Primer on the US Embargo Regulations and the Realities of Doing Business in Cuba

Bock, senior advisor at Google and author of Work Rules!: Insights from Inside Google to Transform How You Live and Lead, will present the keynote speech over lunch, followed by a book signing. He will address how freedom and hard science leads to meaningful work and personal happiness, drawing upon behavioral economics, human psychology, and practical examples across different industries. Bock will also discuss Google's workplace accomplishments and how other companies can similarly make their own work environments "best places to work."

"ACC members have an increased role in the business operations of their employers, and we support that role with educational sessions that address the legal hot topics their companies find most challenging," said Veta T. Richardson, president and CEO of ACC. "The 2016 ACC Annual Meeting will feature a special technology law focus, including spotlights on privacy and information governance – two of the fastest growing concerns among chief legal officers this year."

At the meeting, ACC will honor outstanding members, chapters, and committees, present the "Robert I. Townsend, Jr. Member of the Year Award," and recognize exemplary efforts to promote pro bono services and advance diversity within the legal profession. ACC will also elect directors and officers for the 2016-2017 global board of directors.
