ACC will host the 2016 ACC Legal Ops Conference on June 22 – 24 in Chicago.

WASHINGTON (May 17, 2016) –– The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC), a global legal association representing 40,000 in-house counsel in 85 countries, will host the 2016 ACC Legal Ops Conference on June 22 – 24 in Chicago. Led by corporate law department operations executives at Fortune 500, Global 1000, and other multinational companies from various industries, the meeting will highlight techniques to optimize law department management and innovate legal service delivery.

The conference, which is the principal gathering of in-house legal department operations professionals, is the annual meeting for ACC Legal Operations, a membership division exclusively dedicated to legal operations executives. ACC launched the section last year to support the growing number of legal operations professionals through year-round collaboration, educational opportunities, and access to resources. Representatives from nearly 100 companies will come together at the conference to learn from one another, participate in working group meetings, and plan benchmarking and standards-setting projects for the rest of the year.

“Legal operations professionals have become vital to ensuring that the law department is run as efficiently as the business unit as a whole,” said Veta T. Richardson, president and CEO of ACC. “Although large companies have typically given more focus to legal operations, we’re also seeing more mid-sized businesses adding legal operations professionals in order to advance their law departments, and we look forward to hosting these leaders in June.”

This year, the ACC Legal Ops Conference will offer meetings and sessions focused on such topics as:

  • How to implement automated workflow systems to optimize processes and unlock value;
  • New self-service models for compliance and preventive law;
  • Benchmarking to identify emerging trends and disseminate best practices;
  • Utilizing key performance indicators to drive behavior, and much more.

The keynote session at the conference will provide insights on measuring outside counsel performance from Jeffrey Carr, president of ValoremNext LLC, William Henderson, professor and researcher at Indiana University Maurer School of Law and chief strategy officer at Lawyer Metrics, and Mark Smolik, vice president, general counsel & secretary, chief compliance officer at DHL.

The three-day program will also include a “Bootcamp For Leaders of Early-Stage Legal Ops Functions,” a half-day training delivered by seasoned legal ops professionals for fellow ACC members who are establishing legal ops functions. In addition, industry leaders representing Abbott Labs, Allstate Insurance Company, Bank of Montreal, Fox Entertainment Group, Microsoft Corporation, and other companies will lead workshops and panel discussions.
