The conference, “Being a change agent in disruptive times,” to be held from 12 to 14 May in Edinburgh.

EDINBURGH (9 April 2019) — As the Association of Corporate Counsel Europe (ACC Europe) reaches its 25th anniversary, the theme of its Annual Conference, “Being a change agent in disruptive times,” sounds a much-needed note of optimism in a period of rapid change and political uncertainty.

The conference, to be held from 12 to 14 May in Edinburgh, will consist of 17 sessions with subject experts and 11 small, interactive “law labs.” The subjects all revolve around the central theme of the in-house lawyer as an agent of change, Topics include talks on changing competition law, artificial intelligence (AI), the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the next generation of millennial in-house lawyers. Outside of these sessions, delegates will have ample opportunity to network with their in-house peers from across the Continent, including at a celebration of the chapter’s 25th anniversary.

“ACC Europe is proud of its quarter century of incredible growth,” said Hans Albers, ACC Europe president, chief of staff and associate GC international legal services at Juniper Networks. “This conference is dedicated to the unprecedented challenges and rich opportunities of the new in-house profession. No one knows where automation and blockchain, game-changing European legislation, and the Brexit wild card will lead. But in-house lawyers will be the first to navigate these exciting new times.”

The opening plenary, “The company lawyer as change agent in disruptive times,” is set to stay on theme. The speakers will include:

  • Simon Fish, chair of the ACC global board of directors and general counsel, BMO Financial Group
  • Thomas Laubert, vice president and group general counsel, Daimler AG
  • Joanna Nayler, group general counsel, Just
  • Shannon Thyme Klinger, group general counsel, Novartis

Other sessions feature faculty from Airbnb, British Telecom, Facebook, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Santander Bank, Unilever, the University of Edinburgh, and the European Commission, plus other corporations and academic bodies from across Europe and the globe.
