Morgan is the first in-house counsel to hold the position in NCBA’s history

Washington - The Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) applauds the election of Clayton Morgan as the President of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA), the first in-house counsel to hold this position. Clayton Morgan’s extensive years as a member of the NCBA and his career involvement has more than paved the way to this accomplishment. He was installed as the 128th president of the 17,000 plus member bar association during the North Carolina Bar Association's Annual Meeting in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in June. He will also serve as the 2022-23 North Carolina Bar Foundation president.

In recognition of this accomplishment, Veta T. Richardson, ACC CEO, joined with the presidents of the North Carolina-based ACC chapters, John Grupp, ACC Charlotte and Evan Stolove, ACC Research Triangle Area (who represent 1,335 in-house counsel who are ACC members in the state), to issue the following statement:

“ACC is excited to congratulate Clayton Morgan and celebrate his leadership as the newly-elected President of the North Carolina Bar Association. We applaud and appreciate the recognition of in-house counsel as leaders within the legal community and appreciate that the NC Bar for the first time ever elected someone from the in-house community to offer diversity of perspective as a practicing lawyer, both as President of the Bar and as future President of its Foundation. We congratulate Mr. Morgan on this deserved recognition and look forward to identifying opportunities to support his term at the helm of the North Carolina Bar throughout his tenure.”

Morgan has been a member of the NCBA Corporate Counsel Section for more than 30 years, serving as president-elect, as well as on the Board of Governors, and received the section’s Corporate Counselor’s Award in 2021.

He currently serves as associate general counsel at Duke Energy and has been with the company and its predecessors since 1996.
