Since the election, there has been an increased sense of urgency in the transgender community about securing identity documents that reflect their identities. In response, Bet Tzedek is assisting clients with completing petitions and providing information on this process.   Volunteers who join us for this clinic will have the opportunity to meet with the clients, review their options regarding name and gender marker changes, and, if requested by the client, assist the client in drafting the name and gender maker change petitions.
No prior experience is necessary.  Prior to meeting clients, all volunteers will receive training.  The training covers education and sensitivity training on gender identity; the process for filing name and/or gender marker change petitions in Los Angeles Superior Court; applying for fee waivers; updating federal and state identity documents; and special considerations for undocumented immigrants, people with criminal records, and individuals under 18. All volunteers will receive CLE credit for the training.  By joining us, there will be no expectation of an ongoing representation or responsibility to the clients assisted.

With the recent adoption of new Safe Harbor Warning regulations any company selling consumer products into California is getting hit with product inquiries and compliance certification demands at every step in the chain of commerce. This presentation will identify the risks at both the manufacturer/supplier end as well as the distribution/seller end of the product transaction, as well as ways to manage the risks and measures to take to work toward regulatory compliance.

The presentation will address what AI is and what it currently does, new problems created by AI, and current and proposed liability frameworks.   Because AI is “software that writes software,” it creates (or exacerbates) problems of control, foreseeability, and explainability.  The presentation will discuss these problems, how current and proposed liability frameworks may apply, and strategies to minimize liability exposure.

Stradling’s M&A team, led by Tom Waldman, an ACC member while in house at a private equity firm that completed approximately 40 transactions during his tenure, will discuss post-closing remedies, M&A negotiations and due diligence processes.  Topics to be covered through case studies include claims under representations and warranty insurance, preventing and solving post-closing disputes on earnouts and other purchase price adjustments, the involvement of the in-house legal team during acquisition integration, and using the diligence process and purchase agreement negotiation to minimize issues ahead of closing a transaction.
