Join ACC Ontario for an unforgettable night of rolling, swinging, eating, and networking at our Bocce-Golf Pop-Up Social!

Spend an evening with us, and brush up on your Bocce skills. It's the perfect opportunity to make new connections, unwind and have some fun with other professionals from the ACC Ontario community.

This 1-hour session focuses on the essential issues that in-house counsel needs to know to advise on these issues, and to manage litigation together with external counsel.

Drafting and litigating employment agreements represent ever-present and challenging issues for any employer and, consequently, for in-house counsel. The law is constantly evolving and less-than-cutting-edge drafting and terms can lead to problems in enforceability and litigation.

You will hear about the latest learnings and insights from the courts and practice on the most pressing issues relating to your employment contracts, including:

Termination clauses

Restrictive covenants

Independent contractor vs. employment relationships, and,

Fixed term vs. indefinite term contracts.

Whether you succeed or fail in your career is up to you. In-house counsel often look for career advancement by moving to a different company. A highly effective alternative is to refine your substantive skills and interpersonal dynamics that will allow you to shine in your current role.

Join us to learn how highly regarded in-house counsel navigated and progressed in their careers, without changing employers. They will disclose the strategic adjustments they made in their approach to work and interactions to build a personal foundation to enable them to lead teams and grow in their careers. Two of our distinguished panelists will share accounts of their experiences in the Leadership Academy, highlighting specific strategies and insights that helped them earn promotions from their employers.

New Hampshire has joined 18 other states and many prominent countries in adopting comprehensive privacy laws, creating a de facto global network of privacy requirements.  Because of that expansion, and because privacy requirements apply extra-territorially to companies that engage in business with residents of those jurisdictions, companies that operate either domestically or internationally need to adopt a comprehensive strategy to comply with all existing and emerging privacy requirements.

Please join ACC Northeast & McLane Middleton on Tuesday, June 4, 2024 from 12:30-1:30 p.m. for this important webinar.  Cameron Shilling, Chair of McLane Middleton's Cybersecurity and Privacy Group, will be joined by ACC Northeast Board Member, Sharon Kamowitz of Sharon Kamowitz Privacy & Compliance Consulting, to explain the rights afforded to individuals and obligations imposed on businesses by these requirements, and offer a practical and achievable strategy for your company to implement to comply with these requirements now and in the future.

A Practical Guide to Implementing Corporate AI Policies

As artificial intelligence (AI) technology continues to evolve and become more sophisticated, employees are embracing its potential to enhance efficiency, improve decision-making, and streamline operations. The potential risks and ethical implications surrounding AI use, however, cannot be ignored. This CLE presentation offers practical guidance for in-house counsel seeking to establish policies to govern the use of AI tools and ensure such tools are leveraged responsibly. The program will also examine the growing use of AI tools in various business settings, the types of data being used in those tools, and the various legal and business risks implicated by the outcomes of those uses. Finally, the program will explore ethical considerations for lawyers using generative AI in the practice of law.
