As we approach the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s decision ending affirmative action in higher education, the scrutiny on employers’ diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs has not abated. A recent poll found that nearly three-fourths of corporate leaders plan to increase DEI programming in the next two years. Still, a smaller percentage expect to increase investments in DEI, and a third have expressed concerns that DEI programs unfairly advance some employees but not others. In this webinar, the speakers will examine the attacks on DEI since the SCOTUS decision, the current legal landscape and other practical tips and best practices for DEI programs in the workplace.

"Conducting Effective Workplace Investigations"

This program will highlight best practices for conducting effective investigations of complex employment matters, including discrimination or harassment, safety issues, and suspected theft or misuse of company property.  We will discuss legal issues to consider before, during, and after the investigation, as well as practical tips for conducting witness interviews, tackling confidentiality concerns, and appropriately documenting the investigation. Finally, we will review the process for evaluating investigation findings, reporting conclusions to the appropriate parties, and corrective actions to be reviewed with all decision-makers.

Reed Smith will present a program covering the following hot topics in employment law: (1) FTC rule banning noncompetition agreements, including status of current court challenges and predictions in advance of the September 4 effective date; (2) US DOJ’s May 31st notice of proposed rulemaking to reschedule cannabis from a Schedule I controlled substance to Schedule III, implications of this change amid the current legal landscape; (3) US DOL issuance of Final Rule raising FLSA exemption salary thresholds; and (4) Supreme Court decision in Smith v. Spizzirri – the fallout of SCOTUS’ Decision that the Federal Arbitration Act requires stay of pending case after sent to arbitration.

Come volunteer with ACC Ontario for an afternoon at Fort York Food Bank (FYFB)!

FYFB's Food Program provides over 5000 low-income individuals and families living in our community with a three-day supply of groceries and hot meals on multiple days every week. We will have the opportunity to assist during a weekly grocery pick up window and will assist with selecting groceries for clients, stocking shelves, preparing food bags and other basic kitchen chores.
