Join ACC NCR Community Service and Maryland Advisory Committees for an extraordinary volunteer opportunity at Poplar Spring Animal Sanctuary, a beautiful 400-acre refuge in Poolesville, Maryland, that provides lifelong care for over 200 rescued and mostly fully-grown farm animals, including cows, horses, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, and turkeys. During thisspecial event, participants will get to help with hands-on volunteer activities, during which you will meet and engage with the animals who call the Sanctuary home. Tasks may vary from active, strength-based work to lighter, low-impact options. Families are welcome — children must be ages 16+ to participate, and students can earn community service credit.
We will provide delicious snacks for participants. To respect the sanctuary’s mission, we kindly ask that any food brought be vegan.
Please note: The sanctuary has unpaved paths, so wear clothes and shoes you don’t mind getting dirty.
Attendance will be capped due to the size of the sanctuary. We ask that all participants donate $10 directly to the Sanctuary to participate. Information on how to do this will be sent in the confirmation email after you register. All donations are non-refundable, but will be applied if the event is rescheduled.
Before registering, please check out Poplar Spring's website for more information about the Sanctuary and what to expect when you visit.

In the modern economy, employees change jobs with increasing frequency, creating continuing challenges for employers in protecting their trade secrets and client relationships and ensuring workforce continuity and the retention of institutional knowledge. Compounding this challenge, the contractual tools available to employers to address employee mobility issues are under ever-increasing scrutiny by federal and state governments. This program will review the latest developments in the legal landscape for enforcing non-compete, non-solicit, and other restrictive covenants as well as protecting trade secrets, and will also examine the newly-emerging trend that is limiting the ability of employers to use so-called “stay-or-pay” agreements to incentivize employee retention.

Litigation happens—sometimes as a routine headache, and sometimes as a threat that could reshape the future of the company. Knowing the difference early is essential for in‑house counsel.
This session breaks down how to quickly assess whether a claim is a passing nuisance or a true bet‑the‑company event, and how your response should scale accordingly. We’ll explore practical tools and decision frameworks—including how AI can support early case assessment, risk modeling, and strategic planning.
You’ll also learn how to avoid inadvertently escalating matters through social media missteps, how to manage internal and external communications during sensitive moments, and how to build an effective crisis‑management playbook before you need it.
Attendees will walk away with clear steps, common pitfalls to avoid, and a modern, adaptable approach for handling litigation threats of every size with confidence and precision.
