Employers, across all sectors of the economy, moved to a remote working environment in 2020.  Although the pandemic may subside this year, many companies will be continuing to offer remote work options into the future.  While convenient in many ways, remote working environments present new challenges to diversity and inclusion efforts.  This presentation will discuss those challenges and what employers can do to prevent the remote working environment from having a negative impact on employees in marginalized classes.

The presentation will discuss and provide information on how in-house lawyers can be the “architects” of a plan to rebuild employee enthusiasm, commitment, and responsiveness after a year of trauma and stress in the workplace. The main goals would be to instruct participants to:

  • Design a blueprint for mindful communication with employees during post-Covid efforts;
  • Use the right tools to create responsiveness and creativity; and
  • Ethically rebuild trust in the workplace after months of stress and uncertainty

Please join the North Florida Chapter of the ACC on April 22, 2021 at 4:00 pm for an introductory and educational session with Kimberly A. Allen, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of 904WARD.  The mission of 904WARD is to create racial healing and equity through deep conversations and learning, trusting relationships, and collective action.

Dr. Allen will highlight the initiatives of 904WARD including the Race Cards and its partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative on the Jacksonville Community Remembrance Project.

In 2021, the North Florida Chapter of the ACC will be collaborating with 904WARD by encouraging our members to participate in quarterly events with 904WARD, as well as other volunteer opportunities.  Please join us for this introductory and educational event on April 22 so that we may lay the foundation for future events and volunteer opportunities.

An important foundation of the North Florida Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel is our commitment to give back to the community in which we live and practice.  We are also committed to creating, nurturing, and sustaining a culture that promotes and celebrates diversity and inclusion.  We partner with our Sponsors and local agencies and organizations to provide our time, talent, and resources to pro bono legal opportunities, community service projects, continuing legal education, and networking opportunities where our members can serve others and promote diversity and inclusion within our North Florida community and beyond.

COVID-19 Vaccines are here – in Florida, they are now available for anyone over 18 years old and, in some circumstances, for those over 16. More supply is promised and another vaccine is being tested and seeking Emergency Use Authorization. With the vaccine program rolling, what can and should employers be doing, if anything? Since employers have settled into post-COVID operations, is there anything they should change as their workplaces get vaccinated?

The legal landscape involving vaccination programs in the employment setting has evolved over the years, particularly in health care, which may provide a "road map" in addressing many of the issues dealing with the COVID-19 vaccine. There are, however, many unique and evolving issues tied to the COVID-19 vaccine including the questions posed above, which will be covered during this seminar.

Departing Department of Defense and other Executive branch personnel face a broad array of regulations that restrict their activities when they move to private industry, and a three-way dialogue between the employee, hiring industry organization, and government ethics office occurs (or should occur) during an employee’s transition process.  The volume of these transitions and companies’ compliance with federal “revolving door” ethical obligations are only amplified in a presidential transition year as former administration officials leave federal service and industry personnel assume roles in the new administration.

This interactive roundtable discussion will explore Department of Defense revolving door ethical considerations during an administration turnover and best practices for companies and individuals to ensure compliance with these rules.  We will discuss DoD’s expectations of departing personnel and their hiring companies; the roles of legal, HR, and compliance professionals in the vetting process, risks of non-compliance to the company, and more.  Bring your questions and experiences and join us!

Presented by Erin Felix, Shareholder, Polsinelli PC, Kirk Foster, Director of Compliance, HII Technical Solutions Division and Chief Counsel, HII-Defense & Federal Solutions Group and Scott Thompson, Director, DoD Standards of Conduct Office, Office of General Counsel.

Moderated by Greg Jacobs, Shareholder, Polsinelli PC.

This session is for informational purposes only, no MCLE credit will be offered.

The next generation of in-house and law firm attorneys depend on each other to grow and develop in their careers.  This year, the ACC Northeast NextGen Committee and Preti Flaherty have formed a unique partnership to provide programming tailored to the specific needs of the ACC Northeast NextGen members.

Please join us on April 22nd for the first panel discussion of 2021, as attorneys from Preti Flaherty and members of the NextGen Committee explore the in-house/law firm relationship, how to establish appropriate expectations and ensure accountability for both parties, and how to effectively share relevant business and industry knowledge for the benefit of the engagement. This panel discussion is geared towards members who are new to the in-house role but ALL Chapter members are welcome.  All levels of attorneys will benefit from this candid discussion.

The panel discussion will be followed by participatory Q&A, conversation and networking.

NextGen was formed by in-house lawyers with under 10 years (or less) practicing in-house.  The group is designed to engage the newer class of corporate counsel with initiatives geared toward learning, developing and staying connected.  The ACC Northeast NextGen aims to provide camaraderie, benchmarking and support.
