Fisher Phillips invites ACC Tampa Bay members to join partners Christine Howard and LaKisha Kinsey-Sallis for a CLE luncheon, as they discuss what the recent wave of hiring government investigators means for agency initiatives, workplace inspections and government audits, and how you can best prepare for them. Your long-range planning for 2022 won’t be complete until you attend this event.

Program

As Government Agencies Are Flexing Their Muscles – Gain Insights on What to Do When the Feds Come Knocking

Over the last few years, the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges to businesses throughout the country. As a result, businesses may have focused on the immediate need of complying with ever-changing CDC guidelines instead of staying up to date in areas like Wage & Hour, OSHA, and NLRB enforcement. However, the legal landscape for employers has seen many updates over the past year, and regulators are cracking down now more than ever as government agencies continue to strengthen their ranks. While there is no universal way to prepare for a governmental audit, investigation, or inspection, counsel should be prepared to navigate the different compliance requirements governing the workplace, as well as understand the varying agendas and degrees of power wielded by agencies before they arrive on your company’s doorstep.

Preserving Mental Health in a Changing Environment

Description

The mental health of employees has become a critical issue as employers begin to return employees to the actual (as opposed to virtual) work environment. This session will address employee anxiety and stress regarding the return to the workplace, as well as provide tools to ease that return. The speakers will cover how uncertainty leads to anxiety, how to recognize that anxiety when it is affecting employees, how to help employees avoid the worry trap caused by COVID-19 information overload, how mindfulness can ease the transition back to work, and how to use mindfulness tools to decrease anxiety.

Join us for our inaugural ACC NCR Black & African American Affinity Group hosted by Nicole Greenidge-Hoskins, Kecia Lewis and Ernest Tuckett. At this initial (virtual) meet-up, we will come together to get to know one another and connect. Going forward, we hope you will join us for future meetings to share experiences, topics, and initiatives of interest as well as explore issues impacting Black and African American in-house counsel. If you aren’t able to attend this session but interested in being included going forward, please reply to this email.

Please join us for a morning “Coffee Break” hosted by the ACC NCR Café con Leche (Hispanic and Latinx) Affinity Group, featuring actual café con leche, or a morning beverage of your choice. During this meeting, we will come together to introduce ourselves, discuss our plans for the year and chat about networking skills. Networking in business is one of the best resources for career development and professional success.

All registrants will be invited to order coffee (or other beverage) and a snack to enjoy during the meeting. Please register to receive the link to order.

ACC NCR DEI Committee invites you to attend a workshop on Emotional Intelligence. Self-awareness and empathy are the core of Emotional Intelligence (EI). The workshop will explore emotional intelligence as the foundation of DEI initiatives in the workplace and how EI can help your organization be more inclusive and equitable. The program will be followed by an interactive brainstorming session.

This is an interactive workshop, open to sponsors and members. Come prepared for self-reflection and engagement!

The Emotional Intelligence workshop is a companion program developed by the DEI Committee as a complement to USF’s "Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate Program." You do not need to have enrolled in the USF program in order to participate in this workshop; however, if you are interested in the USF program you can still sign up for it through December 31. The program consists of seven, two-hour modules with the purpose of helping companies become more inclusive. All content is pre-recorded, available free of charge to anyone. Workplace harassment based on sex and power imbalances can take on many forms, and its effects can ripple through an organization.  All legal departments need to know the risks and liabilities associated with workplace relationships, especially romantic relationships.

Verrill attorneys Elizabeth T. Johnston and Elizabeth Connellan Smith will discuss what you need to know about potential corporate risks from workplace romances and relationships, including how relationships can lead to claims of discrimination and sexual harassment. Beyond that they will address:

  • Sexual Harassment as a work related injury
  • How to handle power imbalanced relationships
  • Legislative repercussions to #MeToo
  • What are Love Contracts

Beth and Liz will offer practical guidance on responding to and investigating claims of discrimination and harassment arising from workplace relationships, and give tips on preventing sexual harassment in the workplace, and how to manage coworkers' workplace relationships to mitigate risks before problems arise.

Register below.  Webinar dial-in information will be provided 24 hours prior to the event.
