Change is hard and, as in-house counsel, you are pulled in many directions.  Buy-in on anything from new technologies to new or improved processes often feels impossible.

This course will remind you that sometimes you need to slow down to speed up.  Adopting these process-improvement disciplines will enable you and your team to efficiently move through the steps of identifying, analyzing, and improving existing processes.  Then, change-management techniques can help with communicating the impacts of those improvements to all those who are directly impacted in a way that that creates collective ownership of a new or improved process.  When the right projects are identified and optimized, the right change management approach can be executed to influence the right people, leading to meaningful outcomes for the business, and freeing up more time to engage on strategic matters.

In this program, attendees will:

  • Dig deeper into process improvement and continuous improvement methodologies;
  • Learn how process improvement and change management will enable a clearer path to the right projects on which to work;
  • Understand the "how" to utilize both internal and external resources to push through change.

Hike Along The Chattahoochee River (2-3 Miles; Easy And Scenic) With Your Old And New Friends At ACC and Yes, We Will Be Rewarded With Wine And Snacks After The Hike!

Year-over-year, the Federal Government spends more taxpayer dollars via non-traditional contract vehicles than FAR-based procurements. In FY22 alone, the Federal Government spent $1.1 trillion on grants and cooperative agreements as compared to $576 billion in traditional, FAR-based contracts (a stunning gap considering the delta doesn’t even account for the contextually trivial handful of billions awarded via Other Transaction Agreements (OTAs)). Looking ahead, the Federal Government is committed to spending even more through non-traditional vehicles. Recently, Congress passed several key pieces of legislation – including the American Rescue Plan Act, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act – that collectively allocate trillions more for grants, cooperative agreements, and OTAs, with certain programs specifically targeted to commercial companies that have no previous experience performing these non-traditional vehicles.

Given this unprecedented investment of taxpayer dollars, and the non-traditional entities soon to receive these awards, the goal of this program is to provide a high-level overview of grants, cooperative agreements, and OTAs by comparing and contrasting with their FAR-based counterparts. Also, we’ll help you identify the key elements of each vehicle type so you can issue spot, and walk through the risks/rewards of each vehicle so you can advise business leaders before they (electronically) sign on the dotted line.

Presented by Ryan Roberts and Anne Perry, Partners from Sheppard Mullin, Marko Kipa, Deputy General Counsel at Comcast Cable, and Tim Allsup, Senior Counsel at RTI International.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) announced in October 2022 that 20% of its enforcement actions for the 2022 fiscal year dealt with the crypto industry. Understanding how crypto works and where the next issues may arise will be a key part of doing business in 2023. Our panel will discuss the CFTC enforcement process and focus, where the Securities and Exchange Commission’s and other regulators’ jurisdiction overlaps, and a working foundation on crypto assets.

As in-house counsel, you are expected to stay on top of a myriad of legal issues.  Pierce Atwood and ACC Northeast are pleased to present our next Maine program that will inform you of the top four things you need to be on top of in these areas of critical importance: privacy and data security, employment law, intellectual property rights, and litigation and disputes.  A panel of four Pierce Atwood attorneys and moderator, Kelly Whetstone, Deputy General Counsel at ACA Group, will cover these topics, and then we want to answer your questions.  We want this to be informative and interactive, so please come prepared to fire away!

Three Things Every In-house Counsel Should Know About:

  • Privacy and data security with Vivek Rao

  • Employment law with Katie Porter

  • Intellectual property rights with Michael Hernandez

  • Litigation and disputes with Katherine Kayatta

Please join us on Tuesday, May 2nd, for this interactive program beginning at 5:00 pm.  The program will be pre-approved for Maine continuing legal education credits, and a networking reception will follow the program.
