On 29 January 2024, the Mainland Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters (Reciprocal Enforcement) Ordinance came into operation. This opened a new chapter in terms of mutual recognition of judgments between Mainland and Hong Kong SAR, and certain conditions need to be met for judgment creditors to seek to enforce Mainland Judgments in Hong Kong, and vice versa.

Join Jennifer Wu (Partner, Pinsent Masons) and Adrian Lai (Barrister, Des Voeux Chambers) for a 1-hour webinar to explore the changes in the reciprocal enforcement arrangements of Court judgments and arbitral awards, what is captured by the new reciprocal enforcement arrangement, what are the considerations for businesses and in-house counsel - particularly when dealing with contractual, operational and enforcement issues.

The speakers will welcome questions from the audience at the end of the webinar.

Clifford Chance is delighted to host a seminar on Artificial Intelligence: The Big Questions. This event will be HK CPD accredited.

About the Session: Speakers from Clifford Chance will discuss the big legal questions raised by the AI boom and the accelerating capabilities of the technology. The capability of neural networks is doubling every three-and-half months – on that trend today's AI systems will seem trivial compared to the tools routinely available in the near future. Harnessing the power of these technologies will soon be an imperative for businesses across all sectors. How can businesses manage risk and protect the value of their intellectual property and the privacy of their customers in this new reality? How will emerging AI-specific regulations strike a balance between mitigating AI risks and allowing innovation to flourish?

Following the seminar, guests will be invited to join the Clifford Chance team for a networking session accompanied by drinks and canapés.

Date: Tuesday, 16 April 2024

Agenda:
6:00pm – Registration starts
6:30pm – 7:30pm – Panel session
7:30pm – 8:30pm – Networking session (with drinks and canapés served)

Venue: Clifford Chance, 27/F, Jardine House, One Connaught Place, Central, Hong Kong

Join the ACC Foundation and the American Bar Association as we explore the results of the American Bar Association’s “Legal Careers of Parents and Child Caregivers” report. The report, commissioned by the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Profession and based on survey responses from more than 8,000 lawyers nationwide in various work settings (including in-house) reveals their feelings regarding the impact having children has had on their careers. This webinar will highlight key data points from the survey and feature a discussion with in-house women parents on their career journeys, challenges faced, lessons learned, and strategies to success despite these barriers and biases.

Join ACC St. Louis and  Amundsen Davis for the ACC STL CLE:   How Not to Get Fired as Corporate Counsel on Wednesday, April 3rd!

From ethical factors to privilege considerations to product liability to preserving your work product, this session will address various elements to “CYA” in a manner that is beneficial to both you and your company.  As guardians of the businesses you serve, in-house counsel missteps have a domino effect.

Join us for an analysis of several real life scenarios as to the risks that can easily be overlooked while focusing on the more technical elements of your role as in-house counsel.

The Substantial Burden of Religious Accommodation and What to Expect from the Federal Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA)

Join Jackson Lewis P.C. attorney Mike Moberg for a discussion on accommodations. The United States Supreme Court has clarified the undue hardship burden after 46 years but did not provide detailed specifics about what will be needed to establish undue hardship, leaving plenty of room for arguments in pending litigation. However, it did provide clues to help employers design their internal process going forward. We will clarify what this means for employers both legally and practically.

Additionally, we will discuss PWFA and the practical impact the regulations will have on employers as they handle accommodation requests. We will touch on topics such as the types of conditions and circumstances included under the umbrella of “pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions,” how long an employer must excuse an employee from performing essential functions and what your HR team, managers and supervisors need to know about how the EEOC views their obligations.

Every company regulated by our government needs to plan for changes in the public policy agenda that will most certainly follow the election, regardless of who is the winner. Also, activity related to the election in the time leading up to it can bring both reputational and compliance risks. The program will include anticipated changes to legislative and regulatory agendas as well as insights about managing reputational and compliance risks associated with the election which could impact companies.

Presented by The Honorable Christopher Carney, Senior Policy Advisor, and Fred Dombo, Partner Chair of the Government Relations and Regulation Practice Group at Nossaman LLP and Karen Yankosky, Deputy General Counsel, Compliance at DocuSign.
