Do you want to learn about intellectual property, or share your knowledge of intellectual property with others? Are you interested in volunteering your time? If yes, this program is right for you. All experience levels are welcome, whether you don’t know the difference between a trademark or copyright, or you’ve spent the past 20 years advising clients on complex IP matters. 

The IP experts at Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, PC (CLL) are teaming up with the ACC-NYC chapter and Volunteers of Legal Service (VOLS), to provide a unique program that includes a one-hour training on trademarks, copyrights and patents, followed by a one-hour clinic, in which ACC members are paired with experienced IP attorneys to provide legal advice to microentrepreneurs and start-up businesses, a majority of which are BIPOC businesses.

This presentation will review state-based restrictions on non-compete clauses and the FTC’s proposed ban, as well as provide practical advice for inventory review, agreement revisions and other strategies for protection of company interests and compliance.

Please join us for an ACC NCR Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Affinity Group lunch networking event.  We are recognizing and celebrating the South Asian holiday of   Diwali, the Festival of Lights, at the Urban Tandoor Restaurant.  Urban Tandoor is located a short walk from the Orange Line - Ballston metro stop and has a nice and affordable lunch buffet.  Members will be covering the cost of their own lunch.

We invite you to participate whether you self-identify as South Asian, East Asian, Southeast Asian, Pacific Islander, or any other member of the Asian community, have intersecting identities, or just want to join us for some good food and catching up.  We look forward to connecting with you!

Join Babst Calland Corporate and Commercial Attorneys Mary Binker and Ben Clapp for a two-hour CLE that will provide an in-depth review of legal considerations associated with the purchase and sale of environmentally distressed properties from both the Purchaser and Seller’s perspectives.  This program will first provide an overview of the framework of environmental laws establishing liability for the ownership or operation of contaminated properties, followed by how these laws and existing environmental conditions on the subject site can impact a party’s diligence considerations and inspections.  It will then turn to transaction structures and contractual mechanisms for allocating environmental liabilities between the parties.  Finally, the program will also cover voluntary action programs, brownfield grants, and other regulatory programs aimed at assisting with returning environmentally challenged properties back to productive use.

In this presentation, we will discuss the growing body of state legislation mandating pay transparency, as well as identify some unintended negative consequences employers may face when implementing such policies.  We will also identify the associated legal risks and how they can be mitigated.
