The mission and purpose of the Intellectual Property Committee is to act as a central resource for all ACC members with an expertise or interest in intellectual property law, covering at least patents, copyrights, trademark, transactional and trade secrets.

In 2011, BMO’s Legal, Corporate & Compliance Group (LCCG) made a strategic decision to purchase an ACC membership. There were a number of reasons for this decision. ACC Docket spoke with Kathleen Hogan about how she became a top recruiter.

Lawyers learn the law in law school. But “the law” is limited in scope. Many laws exist beyond the confines of the civil and criminal codes. The laws of physics and arithmetic predate the laws of man and largely drive the laws of technology with which lawyers should become familiar.

Historically, the term “best practices” arose from a management tool many of us know well: benchmarking. For something to be considered a best or leading practice, the management or production process around it became so uniform that many entities adopted it. In other words, we’ve basically figured this thing out, so follow our lead.

There has been an influx of international full service law firms (primarily from the United States) and outside counsel are well versed in both Mexican and international laws.

An honest assessment of who we are and a willingness to hear the truth from others willing to tell us the truth is all we need to understand the labels we wear and to change how we are branded if we are not viewed as we want to be seen.

This TOO shall pass. It may take a day, a week, a month, maybe even a year but this moment, this difficulty, this person will pass on or grow up. And so will you.

Take a step back and examine whether you are, intentionally or not, “blinding” both yourself and your neighbors. In so doing, strive to run your business “consciously” by considering commercially reasonable options to improve everyone’s “vision” both for their benefit and your own.
