Brisbane’s first In-House Counsel Day in … years took off with a bang! It was well attended, and the feedback was wonderful. Highlights from the delegates include:

  • “Brilliant insights from the panel members. Some absolute gems of wisdom for those of us at mid-levels of our in-house careers.”
  • “The panel on dealing with major incidents and the discussion around ensuring crisis management plans are prepared and tested was topical for me. I left that discussion with some thoughts to take back to my organisation for discussion with others to do a little probing.”
  • “Joanne Jary, Partner, Holding Redlich, offered some excellent suggestions that I hadn’t heard before around how to better leverage your external law firm partners to enhance the inhouse capability.”
  • “Improving relationships with external parties was really valuable.”
  • “The sessions were all high quality and engaging.”
  • “Ross Dakin and Peter Liaw from Peppercorn Recruitment offered some great suggestions (and reminders) for proving your worth at review time. While the advice was more focused on the person being assessed, it gave me some ideas on how I might set expectations for how I want my team to demonstrate their value to their performance reviews.”
  • “I also now know how to prove my worth – and what that might be – thanks to Peter Liaw and Ross Dakin at Peppercorn Recruitment.”
  • “Hearing the innovative ways Christine Adamson, Associate General Counsel, QIC, introduced efficiencies to manage her first 100 days in-house.”
  • “Debunking the myth that lawyers aren’t creative via the Transform Together playdoh activity.”
  • “Great opportunity to collaborate.”
  • “Excellent sessions. Great variety and entertaining,”
  • “Legal Ethics isn’t boring, especially when the Qld Legal Services Commissioner delivers a great, dry, humorous & informative presentation”
  • “Commissioner was brilliant and entertaining. GC session was invaluable”
  • “The GC Panel: ‘Managing the GC Jungle’ provided so many amazing tips & tricks”
  • “Excellent day out, thanks. Great to focus on development for a day.”

Virna Trout, President, ACC Queensland, added to her comments with praise for the non-educational side: “It was wonderful to be meeting face to face – the networking side of the event was very positive and collegiate”.

There’s nothing more to say. It was a great day, and we know we will see you all again next year. For those who didn’t make it this year’s IHCD, we hope to see you at this fantastic event in 2024.
