Jason Xu
Junior Corporate Counsel and Legal Operations Assistant
Veolia

Jason graduated from Macquarie University in 2019 with Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Psychology, and in the three short years since, has proven his immense understanding of and demonstrated skill and expertise with legal technology, its implementation, and leadership.

Taking pride in calling himself a "lazy lawyer", Jason believes his 'knack' for understanding pain points and complications in in-house counsel roles has allowed him to thrive as a dual in-house counsel and legal operations specialist, where he has implemented numerous solutions to supercharge the legal function's value to the business by increasing efficiency and enjoyment of the legal team's everyday workflow. Jason's acute knowledge in understanding the psychology behind complacency and innovation within a legal function has allowed him to effectively lead and champion legal technology within Veolia's legal function.

Jason has implemented 'Keith' to Veolia's team, a fully automated artificial intelligence system to review low-value, high-volume contracts with lawyer-level accuracy and precision within minutes. As the 'lazy' lawyer in Jason will ask, "why review the contract yourself when you can get a robot to do it?". Keith has cut down the time the Legal function spends reviewing contracts, freeing up Veolia's Legal function to focus on more complex matters.
