Certification Program

Shaped by a range of internal and external factors in recent years, the evolution of in-house counsel and in-house legal departments continues to accelerate.  The continuing fallout from the Hayne Royal Commission, ever-increasing regulatory obligations, and the deepening COVID-19 pandemic are just some of the reasons why organisations are increasingly looking to legal leaders to anticipate and navigate a host of issues that may threaten operations and their ability to meet key deliverables.

An effective in-house counsel is best equipped to balance both a preventative and responsive approach to organisational support, while maintaining a mindset of legal responsibility and leadership.

For what is a global profession, the ACC In-house Certification Program represents a global credential that demonstrates the holder possesses the competence, skills, and acumen to complement a high-performing organisation. Critical to today’s business environment, the program addresses three key areas that are proving increasingly essential for in-house legal leaders.

Conducting a legal risk assessment.

Program outcomes:

  • Conduct a legal audit assessing the types of risk the organisation might face and their likelihood of occurring
  • Develop tools for explaining legal risk to the executive suite and board of directors
  • Using mock incidents and other exercises to train staff on crisis response.

Developing an effective compliance program.

Program outcomes:

  • Respond to regulators’ requests and calibrate information disclosure
  • Develop synergy between the ethics and compliance components of a program

Implement a strategy to collaborate with other departments to proactively address risk and compliance.

The role of in-house counsel in crisis management.

Program outcomes:

  • Conduct a crisis audit assessing the types of risk the organisation might face and their likelihood of occurring
  • Develop tools for explaining crisis strategy to the executive suite and board of directors
  • Use mock incidents and other exercises to train staff on crisis response.

The ACC In-house Certification Program delivers the essential outcomes required for emerging leaders to take their in-house career to the next level.  In 2020, the program will be delivered via a unique online format including live instruction and group exercises, across nine x two-hour sessions commencing Tuesday, August 11, and concluding Thursday, August 27.
