ACC and HFW Australia invite you to join us for an interactive Employment and Safety workshop on 12 February 2026.
Be prepared to join in and share your own expertise as you take on the role of General Counsel for CommodityCo Pty Ltd. You will work alongside co-counsel and their external legal advisers HFW Australia, to deal with an evolving critical safety incident at a CommodityCo site.
With briefing materials provided in advance, this hour-long interactive event will be based on real-world examples, the learnings that come from them and include guidance from experienced safety expert and defence litigator, Simon Billing.
Speakers

Simon Billing, Partner, HFW Australia
Simon leads HFW's employee relations team in Perth. He is recognised as a leading specialist safety, employer, and industrial relations lawyer. He has extensive experience advising on work health and safety hazards and regularly advises clients on their obligations to identify the risks arising from those hazards to employees and others in the workplace.
Simon is also an experienced safety defence litigator, having been involved in dozens of safety investigations by regulators. In this capacity, Simon has been involved in complex safety matters from the moment of the incident, through to managing interactions with investigators, putting in place appropriate measures in mitigation, and the successful defence of prosecutions of businesses and individuals. 
Alex Griffiths, Senior Associate, HFW Australia
Alex is an experienced Senior Associate in HFW's Corporate & Commercial team focussing on employment and safety law. He advises public and private sector clients and previously served as an adviser to the Commonwealth Government through the offices of the Ministers for Defence, Defence Personnel, Workplace Relations and Tertiary Education. In this role, he provided strategic advice on a range of workforce, workplace, industrial, and safety matters.
Alex's experience in responding to safety incidents has given him considerable expertise across a wide range of industries including mining and energy, oil and gas, shipping, banking and finance, defence, education, and construction, as well as State and Commonwealth Government departments, local governments, and public utilities.
Aleks Ceklic, Associate, HFW Australia
Aleks’ career began in the trenches of human resources where he gained first-hand experience in managing employee’s, understanding workplace dynamics, and ensuring compliance with labour laws.
Transitioning from human resources, Aleks commenced his legal career with a national plaintiff firm where advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution were prized skills. Aleks' dual perspective of seeing the workplace from both the employer’s and the employee’s viewpoints equips him with a balanced and pragmatic approach to workplace issues.
