Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC ChicagoA Discourse on the Outside Counsel Relationship in Key Disputes
Make a New Plan, Stan. This practical program looks at the critical working dynamic between outside counsel and in-house attorneys as they navigate significant litigation and dispute resolution matters. Drawing on several collective decades of first chairing litigation teams, the Blank Rome Team will be discussing the four critical skillsets of outside counsel in litigation: technical (experience), directional (vision), organizational (management) and interpersonal (emotional intelligence), and how all four of these skillsets are necessary to be successful in the prosecution/defense and ultimate resolution of a given dispute.
You Don’t Need to be Coy, Roy. The program will also discuss what company counsel should expect of their outside counsel – specifically under the four critical skillsets – in several important stages of a key dispute, including initial risk analysis, motion practice, discovery collections and holds, relationships with opposing counsel, deposition and witness preparation, settlement posturing and mediation, hearings and the ultimate endgame.
Finally, the program will flag the key red flags in the outside counsel relationship at each litigation stage, and discuss how in house counsel can recognize and correct these red flags, or otherwise, Slip Out the Back, Jack.
