Overview (Program Summary)

Consultation about the changes has closed and the changes themselves are expected to be implemented in 2026.

Although they are currently somewhat in flux, the current proposal would dramatically change how litigation proceeds in Ontario, for example:

1. A front-loaded schedule requiring the exchange of reliance documents and witness statements within the first year of the action, and

2. Sharply diminished discovery obligations, both for document discovery and oral discovery (the latter of which may be eliminated entirely for certain matters).
