Enforcement Outlook: Updates and Trends from DOJ and SEC

Join us for a lunchtime roundtable covering need-to-know updates from DOJ and SEC. As the election approaches, hear from McDermott white-collar and securities partners on lessons learned and what to expect. The roundtable will feature a discussion of how companies can enhance their compliance programs in times of greater enforcement, with plenty of time for questions.

Attendees can expect to hear: 
1.    Insight from former government lawyers, now McDermott partners – Matt Madden, former Criminal Chief, United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Illinois; Paul Helms, former SEC enforcement attorney and counsel to the Enforcement Director; and James Durkin, former federal prosecutor in National Security and Cybercrimes Section, United States Attorney’s Office, Northern District of Illinois.

2.    Updates on current Department of Justice and Northern District of Illinois enforcement priorities, including:
•    Discussion regarding recent high-profile white-collar prosecutions and trials in NDIL and nationwide, including the Outcome Health prosecution led by Matt Madden;
•    Overview of the new cybersecurity legal and compliance requirements (note: thinking of you here James if you’d like to cover some cyber topics – e.g., could talk about ransomware and phishing attacks and what to do about them; theft of trade secrets in cyber breaches, and reporting/compliance requirements re same)  

3.    Updates on securities enforcement and regulation, including
•    Discussion of national and regional enforcement priorities; and
•    Considerations in an election year.
