From State Attorneys General to the FTC and plaintiffs' bar, alleged violations of consumers' biometric privacy have resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in recent settlements and fines. In this hour-long program, Varnum LLP partners Jeff Stefan and Adam Brody will present the current legal landscape, lessons learned from recent litigation and regulatory activity, and corresponding risk mitigation strategies for privacy best practices.

Partner
Adam is a partner and member of the firm’s Litigation and Trial Practice Team. He brings over 20 years of experience representing clients in complex civil litigation before state and federal courts and in private arbitrations. He has particular expertise in matters about mobility and data privacy, including counseling clients on potential litigation stemming from biometric information privacy laws, representing a national automotive trade association in connection with Massachusetts “Right to Repair” legislation, and representing association members involved in disputes regarding licensing unfair competition, and intellectual property.

Jeff is a technology-focused attorney with broad legal authority in data privacy and advanced mobility. He regularly assists some of the world’s leading technology companies with regulatory and data privacy issues. Jeff is credentialed as an IAPP-certified information privacy professional and routinely handles an array of data privacy matters. Jeff also helps his clients navigate the evolving legal and public policy landscape for new and emerging mobility technologies.
Before joining Varnum, Jeff served as the Privacy Associate General Counsel for a leading electric vehicle manufacturer, where he led a wide range of privacy-related matters in connection with the company’s development and production of the world’s first fully electric truck. Additionally, Jeff previously served as autonomous vehicle counsel for a major global automaker and also supported the automaker’s emerging technology portfolio focusing on data privacy and cybersecurity on a worldwide basis.
