Matthew HetznerMatthew Hetzner | Counsel, Capital Projects and Maintenance - ITC Holdings Corp

Matthew S. Hetzner is Counsel, Capital Projects and Maintenance at ITC Holdings Corp., the largest independent electric transmission company in the United States. Mr. Hetzner advises and counsels ITC on various real estate and capital project matters in Michigan, including land use, substation siting, electric transmission line easement acquisition, and associated litigation.

 

 

 

Nathan ScherbarthNathan Scherbarth | Shareholder, Zausmer, PC

Nathan Scherbarth is a shareholder and team leader of the firm’s Appellate group. He also practices in the firm’s Business & Commercial, Construction, Employment, Eminent Domain, and Insurance Coverage practice groups.

His extensive appellate experience gives him an advantage when defending his clients in the trial courts and on appeal. Combining strong written and oral advocacy, legal research acumen, and a pragmatic approach, he knows how to avoid potential pitfalls in any given case and anticipate possible changes in the law.

Nathan has handled hundreds of matters on appeal in Michigan’s appellate courts and the Sixth Circuit. He has successfully advocated for clients on appeal in a wide range of contexts, from discovery disputes, zoning, commercial, premises, § 1983, and negligence to complex issues of statutory interpretation. Nathan attended the Honors College at Michigan State University and earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees with high honors in History and French, graduating first in his class. He then lived abroad in France, near the Normandy beaches in Caen, where he taught English to French high school students. He came back to the States and went on to earn his law degree, cum laude, from Boston College Law School.

 

Devin SullivanDevin Sullivan | Shareholder, Zausmer, PC

Devin Sullivan’s practice focuses on energy law, commercial litigation, and eminent domain, representing utilities and government agencies in trial and appellate courts. Mr. Sullivan currently represents the State of Michigan with respect to the Gordie Howe International Bridge project, having defended the project against challenges presented in the Wayne County Circuit Court, Court of Claims, Court of Appeals, and Michigan Supreme Court, while assisting the State in acquiring the over 600 parcels needed to construct the project. As part of those challenges, Mr. Sullivan oversaw a massive collection, review, and production of electronic discovery by the State. Mr. Sullivan earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan – Ross School of Business before attending Harvard Law School. In 2022, Mr. Sullivan was named one of the “40 Under 40” by Crain’s Detroit and has been identified multiple times as a Rising Star by Superlawyers and One to Watch by Best La
