ACC NCR GC Roundtable: The Postmodern GC: From Elder Statesman to Dynamic Key Stakeholder, Reshaping the GC Role to Meet Emerging Needs

Society, businesses, and workforces are rapidly becoming more complex, unpredictable, and risk-laden. GCs must be key thought partners, decisionmakers, and stakeholders within the inner circle of leadership to guide organizations. GCs and legal departments must be engaged with business leadership and cannot afford to provide counsel from a distance or after the fact. Nor can GCs rely on traditional facetime to train and develop legal teams. We will explore how the GC role is changing in these ways:

• Becoming more central and indispensable to key strategy discussions, early decision-making, and direction-setting 
• Demonstrating more diversity in demographics, career path, and experience, reflecting increasingly diverse workforces as well as contributing broader perspectives in the C-suite
• Developing more proactive advice and leadership in counselling organizations, defining how legal work is performed in hybrid environments, developing legal team interpersonal competencies, and team-building.  

This will be a moderated discussion with Audrey Jean, ACC NCR VP of Programming and General Counsel at 3E and the following chief legal officers:

Sumeet Seam, Chief Legal Officer at National Geographic Society;

Tracy Schampers, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Deltek;

Karen Gally, General Counsel of Otsuka America Pharmaceutical;

Jerald "Jerry" Howe, Jr., EVP and General Counsel at Leidos.
