Georgia’s State-wide Business Court:

Observations and Experiences During the First 18 Months

The Georgia State-wide Business Court (GSBC) was codified by the Georgia General Assembly to provide a specific forum to resolve complex commercial cases for businesses. The Court opened its doors on August 1, 2020, amid the pandemic and held its first in-person hearing on May 11, 2021. During its first 18 months, Parker Hudson attorneys have appeared before the GSBC more than two dozen times and have obtained some of the most important rulings issued. The ACC Georgia Chapter welcomes Parker, Hudson, Rainer & Dobbs LLP whose attorneys, Bill Holley and Anne Baroody, will share background regarding the GSBC, experiences before this new Court, best practice observations, and the most suitable matters for ACC members to consider bringing to the Court. The GSBC is an exciting development for Georgia companies, and we look forward to a robust discussion regarding how it can advance commercial interests in our State.Attendance is limited to ACC members and their invited in-house counsel guests, as well as prospective ACC members.  ACC membership is open to attorneys who practice law as in-house counsel employees of organizations and who do not hold themselves out to the public for the practice of law.

Thanks to Parker Hudson, the CLE lunch program is complimentary for the first 125 ACC members who register on-line.  Thereafter, the fee for current ACC members is $25, and, in all circumstances, $35 for non-members, including prospective members.  A CLE credit of one (1) hour is being applied for, and if approved, will be submitted to the Georgia State Bar for attendees licensed to practice in Georgia.

While we understand that some "no shows" are unavoidable, we kindly ask that you please consider our speakers and hosts who have spent a considerable amount of time and resources to put this event on for you before deciding not to attend.  Good attendance helps ensure that ACC Georgia can continue to offer CLE programming and networking events at no cost to our ACC Georgia members.  If you need to cancel, we ask for 48 hours’ notice togeorgia@accglobal.com.  ACC Georgia reserves the right to charge a fee for attendees who do not cancel.

All unvaccinated attendees must be masked to enter the restaurant; upon entering the private Antinori Room they may remove their masks.  If you have any questions, please contact Connie Swindell-Harding at georgia@accglobal.com.

Speakers

Throughout his 30+ year career, Bill Holley has steered his clients to unparalleled success in major commercial litigation. His creative, comprehensive approach to handling business disputes builds client confidence and engenders respect and credibility with judges and opponents. His depth of trial experience in corporate governance, finance, securities, real estate, mass tort, class action defense, and appellate advocacy skills led to his 2015 induction as a fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers, recognition by Chambers and Best Lawyers, and his selection as head of the Parker Hudson Litigation practice.

Anne Baroody is a senior associate in the firm’s Litigation practice group focusing on complex commercial disputes and litigation before federal and state courts, the United States Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, and alternative dispute resolution bodies. While Anne’s prior clerkship experience helps her adeptly navigate federal and state courts, she also works hard to find pre-litigation and negotiated solutions for her clients. Anne enjoys guiding clients in numerous industries through commercial, unfair competition, business tort and branding disputes.
