ACC AustraliaIn-house counsel are tasked with negotiating a wide range of commercial transactions, and need to be alert (but not alarmed!) by possible competition minefields.
This webinar, hosted by experts from Gilbert + Tobin’s market leading Competition + Regulation team, will explore the tricks and traps in managing competition risks in:
- collaborative arrangements including consortium bids, joint ventures and industry associations;
- supply and distribution arrangements with competitors; and
- intellectual property (IP) agreements, including IP licences and patent settlement agreements.
Speakers
Susan Jones, Partner, Competition + Regulation
Susan is a Partner in Gilbert + Tobin’s Competition and Regulation group. She specialises in competition law with particular expertise advising clients in relation to mergers and acquisitions, licensing agreements, patent enforcement and regulatory strategies, manufacturing and distribution arrangements and investigations of cartel conduct and concerted practices. Susan has extensive industry experience in pharmaceuticals and healthcare.
She was previously the head of the global antitrust practice at Swiss healthcare company Novartis. Prior to Novartis, Susan was a senior associate at Allen & Overy in Brussels and a senior investigator at the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
Susan was profiled in the Global Competition Review’s Corporate Counsel 2019 quadrennial list of the top in-house antitrust lawyers in the world and listed in W@Competition’s 40 in their 40s list of Notable Women Competition Professionals in Europe, Americas and Africa.
She is a member of the Mergers Working Group of the International Bar Association’s Antitrust Section and is also member of the Global Competition Review editorial board.
Jeremy Jose, Special Counsel, Competition + Regulation
Jeremy has over 14 years’ experience in the areas of competition and consumer law and market regulation, gained from more than four years at Gilbert + Tobin and through his past employment for over 9 years in a number of roles with the ACCC.
Since joining Gilbert + Tobin in 2016, Jeremy has advised clients in relation to a range of high profile and important matters including Anheuser-Busch InBev’s sale of CUB to Asahi, Tabcorp’s acquisition of Tatts, ACCC investigations into alleged criminal cartel and anti-competitive bundling conduct and various matters relating to electricity, gas, water and infrastructure regulation.
Jeremy also has extensive experience in merger regulation arising from over 6 years as a senior member of the ACCC’s merger review team. During that time, Jeremy was involved in the assessment of many large and complex transactions including BG / Shell, Foxtel / Austar, AGL / Macquarie Generation and BHPB – Rio Tinto (iron ore JV). During his time at the ACCC, Jeremy also had a leading role in the ACCC’s East Coast Gas Inquiry.
Jeremy was recently the co-author of The Energy Regulation & Markets Review – 10th Edition – Australia by The Law Review and also leads and co-authors Gilbert + Tobin’s monthly “Energy Market Update”.
