Overview (Program Summary)

A program hosted by:

ACC San Francisco Bay Area

A company’s domain name is an important part of how a consumer interacts with a company online – from making purchases to learning about a product or service. A company’s domain name is, therefore, part of a company’s identity, and often is used as part of its marketing strategy. Unfortunately, bad actors exist who will attempt to hijack a company’s domain name or register a company’s important marks as domain names. Issues such as cybersquatting, preemptive domain name registration, and other practical tips of how companies can protect their trade name and marks from being used by third parties as domain names will be discussed The panel will also discuss the challenges and strategies of online enforcement related to domain name infringement, and the pros and cons of different steps to take when third parties are infringing your company’s trademarks through domain name registrations. For example, recent European privacy laws have made it more difficult to identify bad actors, and therefore more difficult to bring suits against egregious cybersquatters.
