CLE Program: NFTs: Why? NO REALLY, Why?

NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) are the latest hot topic in blockchain, where buyers and sellers exchange ownership of a digital item, such as artwork or professional athlete trading cards, for sometimes exorbitant amounts of money.

But why? Where is the tangible value in an intangible asset? What sustains the value? What do you even get when you “own” an NFT? What impact does this have on traditional intellectual property law? Is this a new way of rewarding creativity or just the latest tulip fever?

This one-hour CLE (unofficially titled “Tales from the Crypto”) will explore NFTs and their current state of play in the market, the real-life impacts of NFTs on companies, and the potential impact for the future.

COJK trademark attorney Fran Jagla will moderate the program and will be joined by panelists Deborah Gunn, Senior Advisor to the Faurschou Foundation, Pablo Tapia, Senior Corporate Counsel at Microsoft Corporation, and COJK patent attorney David Sheldon.

Wine Tasting: Kyle MacLachlan and Pursued by Bear Winery

A virtual wine tasting facilitated by Kyle MacLachlan, vintner and owner of Walla Walla's Pursued by Bear® will delight our palates with a tasting of two of the winery's select wines. Mr. MacLachlan, originally from Yakima, is perhaps better known as an actor, entertaining audiences in a variety of roles such as Paul Atriedes in the movie, Dune, Dale Cooper in Twin Peaks and, more recently, the mayor of Portland in Portlandia. Pursued by Bear is the marriage of Mr. MacLachlan's Washington roots and his love of great wine, where the actor seeks to tell a "new story" in what some would say is already a very interesting story. "It's the Talk of the Woods"

The wine tasting will follow the one-hour CLE program at 5:30 pm.

4:15 PM – 5:20 PM: CLE program (one CLE credit – Washington, pending)

5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: Wine tasting (please feel free to invite a friend to join you!)

Please note, for the wine to be delivered to a residence, you must include your birthdate and shipping address when registering, and there must be someone 21+ on the premises, to accept the delivery.

This is a free event to ACC-Washington members. In order to ensure attendance for this popular attendance, a credit card and $30 registration deposit is required to register for the event. If you are unable to attend, you must let us know by April 16, 2021 at 12:00pm in order to receive a refund of your registration deposit. If you are a “no-show” to the event, your registration fee will not be refunded. A “no-show” is defined as an event registrant who has failed to provide notice of their absence, or has failed to log into the event within fifteen (15) minutes from the event commencement time as advertised.
