ACC National Capital RegionData breaches continue to plague some of the most well-regarded companies and 2019 brought several high-profile cases. We will take a look at Marriott’s data breach litigation, lessons learned from Equifax data breach settlement and what tactics companies can incorporate to combat privacy enforcement action and individual claims.
Looking ahead into 2020, the much-awaited California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) went into effect on January 1 and enforcement begins on July 1. We will discuss the changes, implications for companies and how to prepare, as well as lessons learned from GDPR that can be applied to CCPA.
2019 showed that Big Tech sits in the crosshairs of just about everyone when it comes to concerns about privacy – from civil litigants to federal regulators to state attorneys general to 2020’s presidential candidates. We will also talk about some of the recent FTC and DOJ investigations into various Big Tech companies.
With the influx of state privacy legislation, there is increasing pressure on Congress to come up with a federal solution. We will take a closer look at the various legislation working its way through Congress.
We will discuss some of the other major updates from 2019 and what else to expect in 2020.
