Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC SingaporeACC Pro Bono Committee and Hogan Lovells Lee & Lee present a Talk by Justice Without Borders: “Employing a Foreign Domestic Worker - Know what is the right thing to do".
There are well over 250,000 Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) working in Singapore. Many of us enjoy a more comfortable lifestyle because of their contributions in taking care of our families - our ageing parents, infants and young children. Unfortunately, many employers are not aware of their responsibilities towards their FDW. In fact, some employment agencies count on them not knowing the law in order to exploit workers! The sad result is that many workers end up spending months of their working time here paying off fees they should not have been charged in the first place.
Douglas MacLean, founder and Executive Director of Justice Without Borders, will shares some insights on how you as an employer can do your part in ensuring domestic workers are free from exploitation. Come learn some of the tricks that bad agencies pull on employers, and how you can help your worker and their community stand up for their rights.
About Justice Without Borders
Justice Without Borders is a regional non-profit organisation that supports migrant victims of labour exploitation and human trafficking in seeking compensation against their abusers, even after they return home. The offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia are developing the networks, knowledge and know-how needed for cross-border civil litigation, so that migrant workers can access justice wherever they are. Justice Without Borders believe that the right to just compensation should not end even if a victim returns home. Find out more about their work at http://forjusticewithoutborders.org/
This event is for Members Only, and please only register if you can definitely attend.
