Overview (Program Summary)

A program hosted by:

ACC Southern California

Legal departments and law firms today know that to effectively develop and advance diverse talent, we must move beyond diversity to true inclusion. But how does an inclusive talent management strategy become reality? How does an organization support efforts to manage the best diverse talent? Why does it feel like we’re taking one step forward and two steps back? Ogletree Deakins, ACC-SoCal and California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP) invite you to an evening of open dialog examining steps that legal organizations are taking to insure diverse talent is developing and filling leadership positions. Ogletree's Chief Diversity and Professional Development Officer, Michelle Wimes, who is a nationally recognized diversity and inclusion expert, will lead an open exchange on what works, what doesn’t, and steps you can take immediately to advance real change in your organization. The conversation will be followed by presentation of the 2018 Profiles IN Diversity Award and a networking reception as well as the ability to tour the musuem.

Speakers

Michelle Wimes, their Chief Diversity and Professional Development Officer, Ogletree Deakins

Vincent M. Gonzales, Senior Environmental Counsel, Southern California Gas Company and President, Filipino-American Lawyers of Orange County
Vivian Kim, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Hanmi Bank and Past President Korean American Bar Association
John E. Page, Senior Vice President, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer and Chief Legal Officer, Golden State Foods Corp. and Past President National Bar Association

Notes

Profiles in Diversity Honoree:

Pamela L. Washington, Chief Legal Officer, General Counsel & Assistant Secretary, Crystal Stairs, Inc. (one of the largest child care development corporations in California). As the first lawyer in her family navigating the obstacles posed by remnants of segregation that were pervasive during her childhood, Pamela knows all too well that diversity and inclusion have been key to her reputation as a highly regarded nonprofit lawyer. That is exactly why she has been a champion for diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, and worked tirelessly to promote diversity policies and programs and diverse leadership/membership at the local chapter level. In fact, it has been said that no single individual has contributed more to ACC-SoCal’s diversity policies and programs during the last decade and a half than Pam has.
