Overview (Program Summary)
A program hosted by:
ACC Southern CaliforniaThe California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018 was enacted on June 28, 2018, and will impose sweeping, GDPR-like privacy requirements on California businesses. While the new law will not take effect until January 1, 2020, upon implementation businesses that collect information from California residents will have significant and onerous new collection, disclosure, and retention requirements imposed on their use of consumer information. The law significantly increases the definition of personal information, and will allow for the filing of private litigation matters and the imposition of statutory penalties in the event of a data breach, even if consumers have not suffered any actual injury or harm as a result of the breach. Norton Rose Fulbright’s Data Protection, Privacy, and Cybersecurity team will present on the CCPA and what you need to do to prepare for its implementation.
